    Build or buy an incubator?

Could I please get a few links to larger incubators for sale? Id love to build one, but seeing how I'm not the best building in the world and do not want to risk anything, I would rather buy one. I like the Pepsi/coke machine incubators so I might be persuaded? Anyone's opinions are highly welcomed!

This one looks really well build

Re: Build or buy an incubator?

When you say "larger" how many clutches are you looking to have at one time?

The Nature Spirits are awesome but very expensive ($500 + with thermostat) and not what I would consider "large" 4-5 clutches depending on how you set up the egg tubs.

Personally I would build one. The coke/pepsi fridge conversions are awesome (assuming you can find one - as they can get expensive too)

Here is one I built - cost me $50 in materials ($150 for the flex and thermostat) - and it will hold 15+ egg tubs.

Re: Build or buy an incubator?

Go to freecycle.com and see if your area has a group. Also post on craigslist. Just last week i got a full height single pane fridge and a half size for free from both of those sites. So if you can find a fridge, which you can with some digging, then you only need to buy a thermo, flexwatt, fan, and backup thermo. Thats less than you pay for an incubator and you can fit a whole lot more clutches. Goodluck!

Edit** forgot to mention, post your ads as "wanted: BROKEN glass front fridge/cooler". When you mention broken people are just happy for you to come take their trash. The compressors on these things die all the time and they are a hazardous waste so its not very easy to get rid of them.

Thanks...I am still working on a DIY for it but with breeding season in full swing and work I just haven't been able to finish it yet. Hopefully soon. If you have specific questions on building one just let me know and I will help all I can.
