    no veins.

My brother in law tried his hand at breeding this year. He bred what I seriously think was a too-small female to a good-sized male. She had 5 slugs, and 2 eggs. Now, we went and candled the eggs, and they have No visible veins at all inside. But they do appear to have something inside at the bottom. I am really thinking "infertile" on this one.. your thoughts? He was pretty ignorant IMO breeding this female (who is maybe 900-grams but was Not up to girth/weight size in relation to her length by my standards.) I personally think that he got what he deserved if the eggs are not fertile.. but whaddaya think? He has been incubating them for about 10 days and they are not rotting.

Thats alot of eggs for a 900g female. Even if there where 5 slugs. She still commited to haveing 7 eggs. You sure about her size?

I had a similar thing happen with a group of eggs I got from a WC girl - they first candled empty and glowed yellow - I figured infertile and they'd die off - but I stuck them in the incubator anyway - about a week later I candled them again and found small masses with feint veining around the bottom - so I had a little hope - but about two weeks in they started dying off.

I would say if they are glowing yellow when candled - they aren't likely to make it - if they are glowing pink you have a shot.

You know.. the weight could be off. This guy really irritates me.. I would bet that he doesn't even know how to tell grams from ounces, from feet, from miles from meters. They candle a yellowy color. I wish that I could just take his snakes away from him.. he houses them together all of the time. I know that I can't save the world.. but it is upsetting to see someone be SO ignorant.

    Re: no veins.

He won't listen. We gave him a few 10g tanks with screen lids last year (with heat pads and a rheostat!) and came over a few weeks later and the snakes were all back in the "cage" he made for them. It is an old dresser with a glass door that just barely locks and he has escapees pretty often. I know, this makes me mad, and I am sorry for posting here really because this is just a lot of crap that I have no control over, but it does feel good to vent. I just hope that karma is real, and bites him in the behind.
