    Business names

Does anyone know where you can check to see if certain business names are already taken?

You would need to check with your Secretary of State since they are the ones that usually mangage statewide business names.

On a federal level, you can the trademark commission to make sure the business name is not trademarked. http://www.uspto.gov/main/trademarks.htm

That goes for registered businesses. Alot of 'businesses' involving snakes are not registered.

That does not always work. TONS of companies function with zero internet presence. It is best to contact the governing body that controls the founding of businesses in your state.....that is if you plan to create an actual business.

If you have never started a business before, I would suggest getting a lawyer to handle the setting up the first one for you and explain the process(although it just involves filling out paperwork and paying fees). Lawyers will generally do a simple business instruction for around $300-$800. What you learn from the process can be very beneficial if the lawyer is helpful.

and actually now that I think about it, I have googled places before, with no results, but typing the direct name in the address bar worked.
