My bad, also... if you're in Kentucky... make a trip to the Louisville zoo... the herp building is awesome. Albino Crocs, Burms, Conda's, Cobras, Gabby's... drool...

Mammoth cave is somewhere I would love to go to someday, if you do go there and have some extra time and gas. The Smoky Mountains are only around a 4 and a half hour drive from mammoth. Might be a little out of the way but the Smokies are very beautiful and an almost magical place to visit, not to mention they are the salamander capital of the world.

thanks for all the replies... i think it looks pretty sweet too.

aric, the smokies is the reason i was actually first looking at mammoth caves. i was checking to see how far of a drive it is - unfortunately its too far for this trip! mammoth caves is going to be 8 hours away from me to begin with - the smokies would tack on another 4 at least. i went there a couple years ago though, so i definitely agree with you on that one.

I live in kentucky and I can tell you first hand, mammoth is worth the drive from anywhere! Also, another really cool spot for a vaction destination is Red River Gorge. Clifty Wilderness Area to be exact, it's a geological reserve that is pure, and untouched wilderness. It's also only a a short drive from The Kentucky reptile zoo ( TONS of hot snakes! mambas, rattlers etc..) I spent a few days hiking in clifty and lemme tell ya, HERP CENTRAL! I highly recommend a kentucky vacation!!

Re: mammoth cave, ky - anyone been there

Im in KY too and Mammoth cave is definitly a great spot if to vacation and herp its real family friendly and lots of touristy stuff to do its a good time down there ,but I GOTTA give it up for the Gorge!!

the KRZ makes it worth the trip alone and there is also some real good field herping there as well.probally more variety in the cave region but you cant go wrong with either place!!
