Hey, I'm new to the forums
Hey, I just wanted to introduce myself, I'm Evan from Ohio, and I am pretty new to owning a snake as well.

Hey Evan!! Welcome!! When you say that you're new to snakes, does that mean you are interested in getting a snake or that you've recently gotten a snake? If it's the former, this is a great place to learn all about husbandry and equipment prior to your purchase. If it's the latter....WHERE ARE THE PICTURES?!?!?!?!?!?!

Re: Hey, I'm new to the forums
I'm actually a new owner of a snake, I'm calling him Sigmund for now, I think he's a male by the look of his tail, as for pictures, sorry, I don't have a digital camera. I will work on getting pictures even if it means using a camera phone.
I am having a lot of tension with him so far, he's a sinaloan milksnake and he's very active, he got aggressive and I looked up why and saw that he might be starting a shed, and he was, and he had a bad shed, (i was having trouble dealing with the humidity, but I saw some pictures of how to keep humidity in), and his shed seemed to come off fine with the help of a shed box.
When I hold him he seems nervous and afraid, if he bumps into my hand while it's moving he'll try and dart away, and yesterday I tried to get him out of his cage and he bit me .
I have been handling him daily to try and get him used to being held, besides when he was shedding, but he hasn't relaxed in the past two weeks, any pointers?

Re: Hey, I'm new to the forums
Hello there, Welcome! Your milk sounds a little stressed out, and at first they can be sneaky, mean little buggers. As much as it would seem that frequent handling should tame the snake, it won't if he is stressed out.
Give him at least a week to settle into his new home, then you can begin handling, short amounts of time (like 10-15 minutes) every couple of days. If he appears to be in a "bad" mood, let him be and try again another day. It could take a few months before he is entirely comfortable with being handled so just be patient. I know it is hard to resist handling your new pet, but in the long run it will be good for him. It is actually better to get him to eat a few times before handling, but that is not necessarily a must.
