    Identify this snake...

    So I went to Cypress Gardens yesterday and was walking on this board walk and this little fellow had his head sticking up just being a curious little guy. He wasn't scared or anything, he let me snap a few pictures of him. I'm wondering what kind of snake he is. If he's a venemous snake, then i'm glad I didn't grab him

    Looks like a southern black racer to me........I saw some yesterday. How large was it?

    That sounds about right. Very pretty and fast snake. I love how they move around with their heads up like that....very alert.

    If you would have grabbed it you probably would have been bitten several times. Racers and whipsnakes do not like being handled

    Yup, as daniel1983 rightly said, it's a Black Racer (Coluber constrictor constrictor)

    And it would've struck at you like a banshee if you'd tried to get a hold of it!!!

    hehe will i'm a bit of a wuss so had that snake gotten ahold of me I would have run screaming like a little girl cuz I had no idea if it was venomous.
