But that doesnt explain why he is here, now I am afraid to release him, cuase there is no water around here.

Many of the salamanders around here don't live near the water at all! They live under the damp leaves and dirt in the forest. I don't know anything about this breed of salamander but he could be like our 'forest' salamanders.

I find a bunch of frogs (not toads, frogs) and some type of salamander at work all the time, and there isn't a body of water anywhere nearby.

My first guess would be release him close to where he was found.
