just got my first ball python (het axanthic?)
hey, i just got my first ball python. he is a 6 month old normal ball python, no morph.
i have him in a 20 gallon tank right now, i took some pictures right after i got him. im letting him get used to his tank now.

ive been reading a lot on the internet and this forum, but if anyone has any tips for me that would be awesome. i think im gonna try to feed him on wednesday, that would be 7 days since he ate last.
the father was axanthic, the breeder showed him to me, but it was in shed so i couldnt really tell how he looked. the mother was normal. i remember doing the squares from 9th grade biology, and i made a square to see what the chances of him carrying the gene are.
i may be wrong, but heres what i drew.
A =axanthic
N= normal

chances are i did this wrong, can someone correct it and tell me what the chances are that he carries the gene are. thanks.

If his father was truly an axanthic, then he'd be considered a 100% het axanthic. If the father was a 100% het axanthic, he'd be a 50% possible het axanthic.

axanthics are a silver and black looking snake. They lack the ability to make yellow and brown coloration (if I am not mistaken).
It is a recessive trait so both parents must carry the gene to produce visible axanthics.

Congrats on your first ball python. The picture is a bit small, but he looks good. My advice is to double check your husbandry. I still like to recheck my own every now and then. I also think you'd be fine to offer a meal, and wish you the best of luck with his first feeding.

ive been checking the temp and humidity temps (hot side, cold side and air temp), so far everything is ok. humidity is up to 90% right now, but it just rained and the windows are open. he stays in his hide almost all day, but he drank and pooped last night and seems to be doing good so far. im gonna feed him tommorow.
just wondering, how rare are axanthics? and how valuable? i just want to see if, when he gets bigger, anybody would be interested in breeding their female axantic with him.

Did the breeder give you papers showing proof of genetics? Axanthics are not rare.If you do a search here for pics of axanthics you will see how many members have them.
