What size hardware clothes do you use?
I use 1/4 inch, but my rats cannot eat through them. I'm thinking of cutting some wires out to make bigger holes. Any suggestions?
Thanks.

buy some 1/2 inch, they're really cheap and perfect for rats, or u can spend hours and hours cuting this and that wire to turn ur 1/4 into 1/2, but u might make a mess outta there...

Re: What size hardware clothes do you use?
I just built my rats a huge new cage and used 1/2 inch hardware cloth. I am not sure what you are using hardware cloth for, but I am not sure that I would cut it to make bigger holes. I would think that it would be an awful lot of work and may leave a bunch of sharp points where you cut the wire at. If you really want larger holes, can you just replace it with the 1/2 inch?

It's all mount and fixed on my rack, so it would be a lot of works to replace. So I'm thinking to cut a small area to put the food. I think I'll try cutting small pieces to make 1/2 x 1/4 retangular holes first to see what happens.
I've done this before on my old container tops which I made the V-shape food dispensor. And the little edge sticking out does not make a problem for them.

I use 1/3 but it's a pain to find.

All my rats have the 1/4" hardware cloth and they have no problems. I saves food and even the young ones figure it out before long.. Go with the 1/4" and rock on.
