    Goldfish

So, I'm an aquarium nut. At one time I had twelve aquariums up and running but that was BEFORE moving all the way across the country. Right now my husband and I have two. A little ten gallon in the bedroom (bad feng shui I know) and a 40 gallon in the living room with goldfish.

Well, soon to be goldfish. It will finish it's week long cycle tomorrow and we'll be off to start the selection (the cherry barbs currently inhabiting it will be moved to my ten gallon). It's hard to get my husband excited over any fish he can't stand in a boat and reel in so I'm thrilled that he's looking forward to this. Pictures will follow our finds.

    Any other goldfish owners?

The goldfish I'm talking about aren't the comets that are regularly feeder fish. I do love Oscars though, personable fish they are.

I have one Oranda....Plan on getting a few more in the near future..Has to be one of the best looking goldfish out there, IMO. When I got him he was barely 2 inches long...he is now about 6 inches long and has the most beautiful wen...He even loves to be hand fed.

    I'd recommend these myself....

Well, we've been to the store we're getting these guys from quite a few times. We have our eye on a Ranchu, a Pearlscale, a Moore and a few Orandas. Don't quite know what we'll come home with though.

Well, we ended up with a Black Moore, two Pearlscales and a Fantail. Hubby wanted about thirty more but I was forced to put my foot down

    Re: Goldfish

Goldfish are awesome. I have an oranda, a "moor' that was black but turned orange, a few lionheads and some comets.
They will outgrow a 10g tank though! These fish have the potential to have softball-sized bodies. A single one might be ok in a 10g tank for its lifespan, but I like to keep them at least in pairs.
I currently have 7 in a 55g tank. I overfilter the tank and do weekly partial water changes, so everything is good and my parameters stay within the good range.

Sorry! I have to read better. I saw that you're using a 40G. This is more than satisfactory for what you have.

    Re: Goldfish

Ah its okay. I tend to read things quickly and post a reply before realizing that I misread something.
They are doing well. I'm 'attempting' some live plants though I know it's a longshot that they'll survive the goldfish and their nibblings. My 10 gal is nicely planted and so I just nabbed a few of the shoots off of what is in there. I am not one for novelties in my aquariums, I love only the natural looking tanks with the exception of goldfish tanks. I don't know why. But, my husband and I were looking around and I spotted an awesome chinese dragon statue. I scooped it up and home it went. We had it before the fish so it was cycled in the tank but I'd love to get some moss balls growing on it... *sigh*

    Re: Goldfish

Sounds cool! I love the moss balls. I had some until one of the plecos in the 125G thought that it was meant to be his dinner..
I too like less gaudy tanks. My GFish tank now has some Oriental dragon/gargoyle type statuettes in it, but they are not huge or gaudy.
I hope that you'll post pics!
