    Buddy breeding... now with pics!

I posted this on another forum... so my apologies for the repost if you have seen it already.

I am just really proud of my girls.

But I will jazz this one up with a few pics.

    ------------

So I am on round two of buddy birthing my rats. This time I have started separating my females, two per enclosure and circulating the boys through for two weeks.

Last time I put the female together when the pups were about a week old (and one set at two weeks). This time I had the females together prior to getting pregnant, and all through their gestation.

Well, all this week Kirsten Dunst and Cyndi have been big with child(s)... and last night Cyndi had her litter of 16 healthy rat pinks.

I can say that the difference is quite striking. Usually I find the females look quite haggard the first 48 hours or so. The really attentive moms tend to have that frazzled look to them. But Cyndi is just a dream. Looks like she’s been to the spa and back b/w feedings.

Kirsten Dunst isn’t showing more than cursory interest in the pups, but when Cyndi takes her break, she piles them all up and then goes and lays with Kirsten Dunst and they chill.

I’ll be interested once Kirsten Dunst has her pups if the dynamics will change. She should have hers any day now.

I admit I have high hopes as they look just great together, and they are compatible females, so I think that will help.

(Do not judge if I mention that their nicknames are blonde and blonder).

I am verbose and will keep ya’ll... yal’l... y’all (never knew how to spell that one) posted.

    B

A lame jazz up... but here is a pic of Kirsten Dunst when she was a wee pup.

Oooh... and this is Peter Parker. Kirsten Dunst and Peter Parker were betrothed until we realized that Peter Parker had a birth canal.

Excuse me Mr. Parker... I think you dropped something!

Me too, and how we had to explain (with a visual, I might add) that boy rats wore blue speedos, and girl rats wore pink bikini's! I think I still have those pictures somewhere! LOL

Re: Buddy breeding... now with pics!

As I mentioned previously, my only mistake was to not take Peter to the beach. Had I done that I would have known her sex.

That poor baby girl. I had high hopes for her as my newest breeding male. Till she foiled it!
    -------
BTW: Kirsten Dunst had her pinks tonight. I have not counted, but it looks good. Each of the females are on opposite ends feeding. And I do not know if it is just me thinking this is going smoother than usual... but I am not hearing a lot of hollering pinks...

You know the sound... the one that says, momma just got up and is proceeding to step all over her babes.

I'll get a pic tomorrow or sunday

I know I am the only one reading this post... but c'est la vie.

The girls are going great. They have started swapping the pups off. I saw Cyndi take a few and dump them in Kirsten Dunst's nest... KD had a much smaller litter and Cyndi is taking matters into her own hands.

But so far so good. I believe I will do this as a rule from now one.

Re: Buddy breeding... now with pics!

There was a thread an other forum... regarding keeping the in 1.2 trios, or trios of females with 1 male... I just cannot wrap my head around that. I just like to know my females have had a good rest following.
