WOW! it ate the mouse!!!
Fist off, I would like to thank the people whom made this web site possible, I have spent the last few days trying to make my 20gal tank a suitable home.
So, I went to the pet shop today after work to get a ceramic heat source, b/c I now know ball's don't like lights on all the time! I also decided it was time for the first feeding and went walking around the pet shop looking for a mouse. I found them, and to my suprise I kinda felt guilty buying one only for food, but oh well. driving home I couldn't help but feel like I was doing something wrong with my little mouse scratching at his box. LOL.
I get home and very carefully take Merle out of his tank and place him in a shoe box with his hide. I let him get settled, and drop the mouse in........the mouse runs strait to him, and WHAM..he hits it hard in a matter of seconds! I was shocked, he must have been hungry. I gave him some time to eat, and put him back in the cage to chill for a few days.
So, first time seeing a snake eat and it was pretty cool. sorry little Mouse....lol.

Re: WOW! it ate the mouse!!!
I felt exactly the same man. I fed it for the first time yesterday.
It was like 1 degree Farenheit so I hugged the little mouse on my way back to make its last few moments nice at least. Scratching the box.I was expecting my snake not to eat either.
I dropped the mouse in I felt bad, snake didn't do anything.
I lifted his hide then like 7 seconds of realizing what was going on and -snap- It's head was caught init's mouth and one coil wrapped around. It kicked twice and it died.

That's pretty much how they are supposed to strike prey, Flip. Once they make up their mind to strike, they hit fast and hard and get it over with quick. Best for the snake, best for the rodent....Mother Nature is no dummy!
Glad to hear your snake is doing well and ate nicely for you.

Re: WOW! it ate the mouse!!!
After a month of infections and problems I've not been happier than when Mittens attacked and killed its first mouse. I covered the tub with a towel to give it some extra privacy so i didnt get to see it eat. but 2 hrs later its gone and Mittens is in its favorite hide.
