How much humidity is too much?
Newbie here...My ball just had his first shed (in my posession anyway) and he did beautifully. Left a nice big poo and some urates behind as well I live in the Seattle area and while it's not typically too dry here, I have to keep it dry in my apartment because I have heinous allergies. Too keep the humidity in his glass tank up, I bought one of those Tropic Aire humidifiers (someone had mentioned them in another thread) and it has done wonders; the humidity at it's highest is about 68%. I just want to make sure that this won't pose any risk for respiratory infections. The way the thing works is is pumps humid air into the tank through a tubing system. Has anyone had any problems using this system?
Thanks for your help!

68 is a little high i think, should be 50-60% and 80% during shedding.

If you can bump it down a bit that would be preferable. I've never used one of those humidifiers (although I have used room humidifiers), but as long as the cage doesn't get wet you should be ok. Also watch that you don't get mold in the humidifier itself. Warm and wet = crazy mold.

I keep humidity around 40-50% at all times. I don't really bump up the humidity during shed time and haven't had any problems.

I don't think high humidity is as bad to the snake as it is for the cage as it will raise chances of bacterial growth.

I agree. Here in Central Florida it is almost impossible to keep humidity down to 50% (that's called low humidity here ) In the summer our humidity is usually around 90 - 95%. Having high humidity does cause other problems that you have to watch out for though - like mold and bacterial growth.
I've never had any probs with the higher humidity - snakes don't seem to care, eat well, poop as they are supposed to, breed well, eggs are laid, and then hatch. The hatchlings also aclimate well to dryer climates.

Re: How much humidity is too much?
I remember being concerned the first summer we had snakes and a really humid week hit Michigan. It was just literally awful and I was worried for the snake enclosures. An experienced breeder assured me the snakes would be fine and I should just keep an eye on the enclosure for condensation and dripping off the lid as well of course as watching the substrate for any issues.
In the end, the snakes were likely far happier and more comfortable than us humans.

Re: How much humidity is too much?
My humidity is a consistent 60-80%. I live in Southwest Florida so the humidity doesn't get much lower. Also being on a lake doesn't help either.
All my snakes have been in my rack for around 4 months now and there hasn't been any ill effects.
Also too much humidity can cause an RI? I thought you were supposed to raise temps and humidity when dealing with an RI(to help the snake breath).
