Re: My ball python and its cage
Nice looking wood cage... and some suggestions.
1 - Is the wood treated with poly? Any wood cage a BP is in needs to be thoroughly waterproofed or it will warp/bow leaving openings for escape and possible harboring mold. Also, make sure there are no nails or screws sticking out at all or your snake WILL find them and possibly injure itself.
2 - Get two identical hides; cave, bowl with an opening, whatever will be totally enclosing. Also, you might want to get a water dish that's a bit heavier than a tupperware dish or you'll be cleaning spilled water every day.
3 - The antler looks nice, but I would either place it prongs down for stability, since BPs aren't the best climbers, or take it out alltogether.
4 - Get a digital thermometer ASAP! Those stick on things don't work right, and they're too high up on the cage as it is. You need to measure temps at the floor.
5 - What other than that light are you using for heat? If you have a UTH (which you should for belly heat) make sure it's on a thermostat or at least a dimmer. Temps are really really important to ball pythons...especially those in shed as yours appears to be in that picture .
Hmm, I think that's it. Did I miss anything anyone? Otherwise, that's some nice construction there.

Re: My ball python and its cage
So.. unsealed wooden cage, analog, inaccurate thermometer/hygrometer, exposed sharp edges, hot light, no real hiding places, and pine bedding..
Nice!
