    therm/hygro customization

Hey guys and gals. New to the site, but not bps.

I'm in the process of building a new terrarium out of plexiglass. I'm using the zilla thermometer/hygrometer with separate probes. I'm gonna drill holes for the probes, but the probes are a little bulky and I dont wanna drill holes that big. So what I think I'll do is cut the wires and feed them through a hole the same size, then reconnect the probes to the gauge with some sort of small electrical connector.

So that's where my question comes in. I'm guessing the probes send an electrical signal to the gauge.

Would adding connectors in line with the probes affect the way they read?

I see it's a possibility since I'm adding to the amount of conducting material between the gauge and probe.

Yes, adding connectors inline will affect the reading, but given the short amount of wire, the difference should be insignificant (there is already a +/-2 degree margin anyhow). You can keep power loss to an absolute minimum by soldering everything back together as well, which will ensure a solid connection that is as close as possible to that of the original wire.
