    after lay weight

If you have a female that was 1500-1700 grams before being paired up with a male...............how much did she weigh after she layed eggs?

reason for my question: I saw somebody selling "breeder females" at 986 grams 1100 grams 970 grams And they say in the ad that they have laid eggs for them this year.........Do eggs take that much weight from the girls, or did they breed them under weight?

    thanks in advance

    Re: after lay weight

females lose roughly about 30%-40% of the original weight after they have laid. Takes a lot out of them . One reason why most artificially hatch them , lets females get the weight back on soon.

Those weights are totally possible after laying. I had a female last year that was 1495g totally empty that weighed 798 after laying.

I bred a 2000 gram girl last year, and after laying she was a little over 1,400 grams.

I dont like to breed mine if under 2000g. I bred one last year she was about 2100g she laid her eggs then dropped to 1444g. That was on 7/16/07 and as of 11/7/07 she weighed 2565g. She only gets a med/large rat every 7 days. She hasent missed a meal yet.
