    Re: whats this waving

housing them together is kinda like housing two snakes together. you may be successful with it but it really isn't recommended. i have seen some breeders housing them together in a huge room with a bunch of basking areas... and it seems to work for them but i know it isn't looked kindly upon by avid beardie owners.

housing them sep. really is best.

To throw in my two cents about housing dragons together, I would say that it's risky. People have successfully managed to house bearded dragons together, yes, but there are also the stories of people coming home to one of their dragons having a painful bite, missing limbs, or even mauled to death by their cage mates.

interesting.. i had read two females (Especially if raised together) can be housed safely together, even better if you have a large enclosure. We do plan to get the girls a large tank within the next month. Thanks for adding that link

well, to me it's like anything else... if you are prepared to loose one to the other, without notice, then house them together. if that thought is completely unthinkable... then house them apart. ultimately it is your decision.

personally i've had 4 dragons in total. just having them around each other... in the house and getting along perfectly and then all of a sudden a quick dash and one is beating the crap out of the other... i can't imagine what would have happened had i not been right there to break them up (okay my hubby broke them up - but still)...

so honestly, i would never house two together regardless of sex.

    Re: whats this waving

The arm waving is very normal and submissive beardie social behavior. Housing them together as babies and raising them together is the best way for success if you are gonna house multiple dragons together. They have a pecking order and will work things out from time to time if they are both submissive you will be fine. usually you won't see problems until they mature and become sud adults to adults.

    Re: whats this waving

thank you westcoast that made me feel alot better. we honestly dont have any issues at this point. they are both gaining weight, sleeping well, eating well, exc. we know they are both girls and i had read and had been told since they were raised together we *shouldnt* have a problem. i know how some people get very defensive wanting to keep them apart and housing them seperately and those of you around the site who "know" me know i always do whats best for the animals (Remember caution and savanna, brought them home, housed them together then freaked out and had them apart the very next day, with appropriate husbandry setups, exc) so it isnt that im deliberetly putting my dragons in danger i have just heard such conflicting information its hard to decifer which is right. i do want them to live together, not just to keep them as friends but cost (im planning on getting a large tank (75gal) and stand) to keep them together in so for visual delight too... keeping two 75gal tanks in a condo.. it isnt feesible i wouldnt have gotten two if i knew they couldnt be housed safely together. if a problem should arise i would most certainly have them seperated and we would work it out but if they can live together i want them together.

aren't they sub-adults at around 6 months old? i know we had an accidental breeding of our female when she was 9 months old. we were told she was a male... but it turned out as she matured that she was in fact a female  we had them out in the yard, sunning themselves when the breeding occurred.

ashley, i'm not trying to scare you or be a downer... i just want you to be aware that housing adults together can end in the death or injury of one or both of your dragons.

    Re: whats this waving

aleesha, thank you very much for your input. As always I plan to keep a close eye on these two. If they start exhibiting any behavior that concerns me I will pull one out. Im very good about keeping close tabs on our animals and everyone (rats, crested included) get weighed once a week unless i suspect a problem they would get weighed sooner so if i see one isnt doing as well as the other i can pull one out then too. These came from an August clutch so they are still babies. We plan to keep tabs your not a downer, better to be brutally honest and put all possibilities out on the table then be ignorant and assume "it cant happen to me"

Thank you everyone for your opinions and input

Yea, and just to let you know- they might just wave at you, too!! I have a male- and the other day I was shocked to see HIM waving at me!!! Of course, I was infront of the TV so he might have been waving at that- but I dont think he was- unless hes afraid of barbies lol.

jessika thats hilarious!! The girls have been so much fun, i didnt think they would be as entertaining as they have been. Nikon often stands at the front of the tank just looking at me while im on the computer. Its amazing how different they are lol I wish I didnt wait this long to get them!

    Re: whats this waving

I know, their great!! Their personalities really amaze- and interest me, because it seems that no two are alike.
And yea, if you dont see any weight changes then they should be fine housed together in a tank thats about 6ft long. I know that some breeders will have one male and up to two females in one of that size- so I would say that you would be safe with that. Because then in that case even if one is more dominant, generally with a tank that size they will each have their own section of the tank.
