Down to two racks, help me decide?

Hi Everyone, could you give me some input on my rack choice?

Let me describe what I am looking for in a rack:

    1) I have 4 (soon to be 8) small BP's so I need something around a sweaterbox size for them to grow into and, for the females, eventually out of.
    2) I want Flexwatt belly heat, and because I'm in Iowa I want 4" rather than 3".
    3) I want the IRIS tubs for the visibility.
    4) I would rather buy than build my own.
    5) I don't want an open sided economy rack.

This puts me at this model from Rich at Reptile basics. The 32 quart Iris sweater box. The only PROBLEM is that it has 3" of Flexwatt rather than 4". I'm still waiting to hear back if he can do 4" but it will probably cost something extra.

    http://www.reptilebasics.com/Iris-Sw...t-p-16197.html

OR Animal Plastics (right here in Iowa) has one the IRIS 375 that is slightly smaller than sweaterbox size. Sweaterbox is usually about 22 by 18 by 6, I think, and this one is more like 22 by 14 by 6. So the problem with this one is that I think it might be too small to waste my time on it?? On the plus side, it comes standard with 4" flexwatt.

    So what do you think:

    A) Try and get 4" Flexwatt installed from Rich
    B) Settle for a slightly smaller tub from animalplastics.com
    C) Keep looking? (Any suggestions?)

    Thanks so much!

why is 1 inch of flexwatt such a big deal? 3" is fine.

It gets colder here in Iowa so I thought I would want at least 4". Some other people have said two of 3" is best. No?

It depends on how cold you keep your house...I mean, 60 F is the same here or further South, on a winter night. lol
I keep my house comfortable for myself and my snakes, so I'm just going to use the normal AP racks with the heat cable.

So as long as I stay in the 70's the 3" should be fine? Is that wide enough for an adult male to coil and and stay warm?

3 inch flex will heat a 32qt sweater box rack fine.

Just make sure its belly and not back heat. Back heat really only works well in a room kepts at approximately 75F+ You shouldn't have a problem heating the racks with 3 inch belly heat.

I use 4" for all but the adult females, they get 11". 3" is ok, but if 4" is just as available to you, I would use that. As far as custom racks, I have no opinion. I never look any farther than Home depot . Good luck.

Hi guys, I went with two 32 Quart sweaterboxes from Rich at Reptile basics. He put in the 4" flexxwatt in for me as well thanks for all your suggestions!
