Anybody have a back up generator? (just in case)
The winters are cold here so I was thinking about it.

I've got one. Best money I've ever spent, nothing like peace of mind.

well i have an old one that is a little big and can power the whole house if need be. and i just bought a new one this year it's smaller only 5500 watts but that still more then enough.
the old one is a 10000 watt gen with i think a 16hp motor and i bought it years ago for a factory that was going under.
the smaller one is a dayton that i got for a great deal and just couldn't pass it up. it has the honda motor 9hp

Re: Anybody have a back up generator? (just in case)
winters are cold here too, so as soon as I get my own house a generator is a must. right now I am in an apt, and so I was thinking of stocking up on hand warmers and stuffing them in socks if need be to keep the BP's warm. anyone else had to do this?
My brother phrased the need for a generator succicently: "If there's a nuclear war and we're rocketed back to the stone age, I still want my beer to be cold"

I inherited one, but I have to go through and figure out how to operate it and hook it up.

I got another 6 months living home before I get my own house but my pops has a massive one and a smaller one as wll... My thermostat is hooked up to a computer battery back up that will last a couple days so that should be good enough... I havent checked out the prices but im guessing somewhere between 500-1000$ for a smaller one.

We are actually installing a gas fireplace. It will go on if the power goes out, and it'll be in the same room as the snakes (central house locating in the dining room.) We have a generator that could provide belly heat but I am still looking into that.. at least the room could be hept in the high 70s with the heater.. but our power outages usually don't last long here.

$500-$1000
I didn't expect them to be cheap, but I was hoping there may be some very small ones (just large enough to keep a few tanks running, or even one tank)
