    Punnit Square woes

    Ok, I know the basics for building them... dom/codom, easy.. simple recessive, easy.. double recessive, harder, but I get it...

    Now, could someone show me a punnit square for a codom/simple recessive crossing? I know that if you cross a codom with a homo simple recessive you get normals and codoms, both het for the recessive gene. What if you cross a codom het for the recessive, with another (same) codom het for the same recessive?

    EDIT: I don't want to know the actual results. I just want to know how to put it in a punnit square...

    Re: Punnit Square woes

    i got a C in my genetics class last year but i'll attempt....

    i am gonna use honey bees for an example
    AA would be the allele that makes spider (could be hetero or homo)
    Bb would be the allele that makes hypos- Bb being a het
    coDom het recessive x same= AA,Bb x AA,Bb

    so set up your square like this...
    __ AB Ab AB Ab
    AB
    Ab
    AB
    Ab

    if you do all the crosses it ends up like this.

    AABB: 25% spiders
    AABb: 50% spiders het for hypo
    AAbb: 25% honey bees

    some one correct me if i am incorrect, as i am learning all this again..

    Re: Punnit Square woes

    Ok, I got it... I went back and re-read NERD's double-het genetics page and was able to figure it out. It's the same as double-het's basically, since a co-dom is really just a het for a super morph...

    ok let's take cinnamon as a codom and albino as a reces. het.
    aa = albino
    Cc = cinn

    You cross cinn het. alb x cinn het. alb:

    CcAa x CcAa

    -----CA-----cA----Ca-----ca

    CA CCAA CcAA CCAa CcAa

    cA CcAA ccAA cCAa ccAa

    Ca CCAa CcAa CCaa Ccaa

    ca CcAa ccAa Caca ccaa

    Yeah, that's actually the example I was using on my own, and the result I came up with. Thanks!
