    another weight thread

    Sorry guys and gals.

So I've had my little female ball for almost 2 months. She eats like a champ every week. She's been getting hopper mice. When I first got her I had her sexed and had the vet give her some dewormer.

She weighed in at 54 grams back then. Just weighed her today after a poo and right before she completes her shed.

She weighed 65 grams. My question is. With getting fed a hopper mouse every week. Is only 10 grams of weight gain in about a month and a half seem ok?

She's roughly 18 or 20 inches. A hopper mouse gives her a very faint little lump in the stomach so the hopper is just right size wise.

Any ideas? Try switching to rats? I'm all open ears here.

try 2 hopper mice, then as the snake grows feed bigger mice.

mice or rats doesn't matter, just keep the snake eating weekly and it'll grow!

    Thanks vaughn!

Ill see how she takes 2 next feeding day. She should be done shedding by then.

Would that be better than say feeding every 5 days? Just the 1 hopper? Or every 7 and trying 2?

Thanks for the help. I'm not worried. I just wanna make sure she's gaining the right amount of weight.

    Re: another weight thread

I hear ya on the size of food thing. My little girl is about the same length and roughly 3-4 months old. She was on hoppers until last week when I upped her to small adult mice cause she downed the biggest hopper they had in a flash and kept on looking around. She seemed to love that small adult.

I just got a new scale, and she's in shed so I can't weigh her yet. Once she's done, I'll get some new pix and weigh her to do some comparison of young snake weights.

Yeah pics would be nice. Pics are always good!! Haha

I'm gonna try feeding her 2 hoppers this coming friday. That's her feeding day. My girl is also in shed. She cleared up yesterday. So I'm watching her like a hawk.

Maybe the mice I'm getting are malnourished? I might start taking a scale with me and weighing the mice I pick out. So I can keep track of exactly how many grams she's eating and how much she's keeping.

Here's a great link to give you some ideas on prey weights at various ages as well as equivalents between types of prey.

Thanks for the link. I've seen that a few times.

My concern is just that she's got some loose skin under her neck. And some wrinkles. She drinks after each meal. And drank today too.

I'm just thinking that with that and her very slow weight gain that she's not eating enough.

    Re: another weight thread

Ok so here's some good news. She went into shed. And pooped right before it.
Had a bad shed even with the husbandry spot on. Soaked her to help out and in the process she pooped again. Ok no big deal.

Weighed her again today. I put the scale on a hard flat level surface. Didn't do that before

That dang girl weighed in at 80 grams!!!! After 2 poos too!!! I must have got a bad reading last time. I'm a lot happier with 80 grams. That's roughly 25 grams of weight gain. Half of her starting weight a little over a month and a half ago.

So a baby eating strong on hoppers every week gaining 25 grams in that time frame. Seem a little better???
