    no.

they are good if you are using them for decoration.

    or a rubbing tool.

    but no...not as a hide.

No, not generally. A good hide is one that your snake can "just" fit into, and it touches it from all sides. Half log hides are too open, don't usually touch your snake on top and don't give your snake a secure feeling.

Of course, my rat's love the 1/2 log hide I purchased when I got my first ball python. Three determined rats can squeeze inside it (tells you how big it was! )

They make poor hides, and do not provide enough security.

You can make hides out of plastic flower pot saucers, plastic bowls (6 for 2$ at walmart), kitty litter pans. It all depends on the size of your BP just make sure they are tight (all sides touching your BP's body) and identical so your BP does not chose security over thermo-regulation.

You can also purchase something like this easy to clean and available in various sizes, I use the large and extra large ones (for the BP that are too big for plastic bowls and not big enough for kitty litter pans)

Are the small-sized hides from x-terra small enough for a baby BP? I they are the hides that look quite rock-like and come in 3 sizes.

    Re: half log hides

I have one for my big girl that she just barely fits under, she loves it. One end is pushed up against the side of the tank, with her cocofiber built up against the glass, so she feels secure. Her water dish is right outside so it feels more enclosed.

On the other end I have a black shoebox with a hole cut in it that she squeezes into. I decided I was going to stop being so picky about things looking natural, haha.

I wouldnt use exclusively the half log hides because like others have pointed out, they typically don't provide enough security. The rock hides are pretty cool, I use them for some of my other snakes, I imagine if they're the right size they could work for a bp.
