    housing question?

I finally decided to move onto something bigger than ball pythons (I also just got a much bigger space to keep the snakes) So, I chose the red tail boa. and now I just have a few questions.

    SIZE OF TANK?
    TEMP AND HUMIDITY?
    TEMPER?

I dont mind being bit (my bp female, HATES people, including me..haha)
but i'd like to know what i'm getting into, as ive heard mixed answers from everyone. Thanks guyssssss.

    Re: housing question?

Size of enclosure can depend on which Boa species you are most interested in. Generally, a 2' x 4' x 1' (d x l x h) cage will comfortably house an adult Boa Constrictor constrictor (true red-tailed boa) / Boa Constrictor imperator ("Columbian" red tailed boa).

Humidity: 50-60%, higher when in shed

Temps: 78-80 cool side 88-90 warm side/basking area

I think the temperment of your boa will really depend on the snake itself. I've known some crazy boas and also some very calm boas. It's one thing for a 4' ball python to strike at you or tag you, it's another thing for a 7' boa constrictor to not want you to handle it. Sometimes a snake like that just makes it tons of work to do some simple cleaning, etc... That being said, if you're planning on buying a large boa you may want to ask about its temperment first. Boas are very cool snakes, and very strong as well!

    Re: housing question?

haha yeah I know, big difference.
I'm still into it, too me it's worth it.
The whole biting thing (although it can be a bother)
to me is part of the whole experience in having a snake.
ane even though I love my bp's I know i'm ready for something a little more serious.

    Re: housing question?

I almost bought a 6ft RTB from this guy i know. But when i went to get it, he had sold it already.

So instead i purchased a baby, and give it plenty of handling, like all snakes they can all have different temperment, but for the most part, i think they're a pretty mellow snake? Give it the proper care, handling and what not and i would imagine you shouldn't have any problems with temperment.

That's just my 2 cents, i'm new to owning one, but have done some research and what not, just what i've come across and heard from owners.

Do you plan on getting an adult or baby?

    Re: housing question?

would a baby fit in a juvenile ball tub?
im getting a rack that holds juvenile and adult balls
and i was just wondering if i could possibly put a baby boa in there somewhere before I get it's whole set up?

    Re: housing question?

My BP baby was way bigger than my Baby RTB when i got it.

    I don't see why not?

However, i don't use a rack system or tubs, so i'd probably wait for somebody who uses that system to answer the question.
