jumping bci

A mate of mine has just texted me about his BCI , he said every now and then its whole body jumps i asked him to check his temps ect , but he hasnt got back yet , i told him to ditch his dial thermometer and get a digital one and make sure his temps humidity readings are correct , also i told him to have it checked over by a vet asap .
does any one on here have any idea why its jumping like this? as i havnt heard of this jumping behavior before

I'm not sure at all. The only thing that comes to mind is it jumps when it strikes for example the "jumping viper" of Central America actually leaves the ground when it strikes.

Thanks for the reply , he said every now and then while its just resting its whole body jumps, seems strange behaviour to me first time i heard of it

Ok this is probably a stupid answer but maybe it has hiccups? Can snakes even get hiccups?

No hiccups. Snakes don't have a diaphragm so therefore, no hiccups

How odd. Some sort of spasm? I'm wondering if the snake's possibly reacting to heavy noise/vibration. Does your friend tend to play loud bass music, have the enclosure on the floor or anything like that? I don't know. If a snake's doing something really off, I'm always more comfortable talking to the herp vet just to be sure.

yeah i think he has the viv on the floor , not sure if he plays loud music thou ? ill text him again , he hasnt got back to me yet since i first started this thread :/

Well I just wondered. We had the big rescue BCI on a viv on the floor for a short while and she definitely reacted to heavy footsteps or fasting running little kid feet racing by. Really made her jumpy to we found an old dresser that would fit the big glass viv she was in at the time and get her up off the floor (better for drafts too of course).

you got a point there frankykeno , ill tell him to move the viv off the floor and put it on tp of a dresser or something , i texted him again ealier to see if he has took it to the vet yet but still havnt heard any updates
