    Exclamation need some help !

I was giving my bp his scheduled bath tonight and everything seemed normal, he was sitting there enjoying the warm water and decided to take a drink, no problems, but after the bath i was drying him and this stuff kinda oozed out of his mouth and nostrils (the only way i can describe it is it was kind of like spit almost).
Anyways I've had him for about a year and have never had any problems, i keep his temps. at about 85 on the cool side and 90 on the warm side, and the humidity is 55%, 70% when hes shedding. My question is, is this normal, or should i move his routine checkup to this week?

    Re: need some help !

It may be a sign he has a URI. I would go ahead and bump up his check-up to this week if that is possible.

Regular baths are not necessary for ball pythons, with proper humidity and a clean water-dish, there should be no reason to bath a ball. Too many problems can arise from regular soakings such as a URI or scale-rot. I really only soak to help with stuck sheds and maybe to help instigate a bowel-movement if there is a long break between defecates.

I just realized I kind of made it sound like I bathe him alot, I usually give him a bath every other week, because lately hes been shedding back to back, every two weeks or so. Yeah Im going to see if i can scedule an appointment for next week hopefully, just to make sure.

Let us know what the vet says please.

Also, I would suggest that you reconsider giving your BP a bath so frequently. As was mentioned earlier, BPs do not need and should not receive regular baths IMHO. If the humidity is in the right range normally a bath is not needed to shed. Good luck!

Just another FYI, extra moisture does cause a snake to shed more frequently. That along with growth spurts. Your baths may be part of the reason for the extra sheds.

I have never heard of, read, been told, or stumbled onto this particular bit of

'knowledge'. At most, excessive humidity can cause scale rot, or in a worst case, an RI.
I'm not tryin to start anything, but we should really back up our "claims"
