Possible Shed Problem

Well my guy shed a few days ago it was mostly complete but the head had a few complications so I did what I could to get it all off. But there are some things still on the head that bother me to death.

The problems are found on the left eye and on the head.

Was going to wait for next shed to see if problems persist any advice would be very much appreciated.

It looks like a retained eyecap. As for the head thing couldn't really tell the camera focused on your arm instead of the snake.

Im kinda noobish so dont quote me on this but waiting till the next shed i think will be fine. Or and this is the iffy part i have herd you can use a wet q-tip and very gently try to massage it off. Its hard to see but it looks like your talking about the eye cap being on still right ? I would wait for some one else to back me up on the Q-tip thing i never had to do it myself just what i have herd

Yea they can be removed with a wet Q-tip. However some one that hasn't done it or doesn't really know how will do more damage than good. Just leave it be your snake will be just fine I just had one get rid of hers and they come off like a dream with the next shed.

I concur with Ed. Seems to me like the best thing to do is just wait for the next shed. From the pics, it looks like there might be a partial retained eyecap. If so, he'll either rub it off on his own or it'll come off with his next shed. As for the scales on top of the head....it's hard to tell, but it's likely just a dry patch, which is normal. My snake sometimes has little spots of grayish, off-colored scales after a shed and it always clears up with the next.

I would wait it out. In the meantime, I would watch like a hawk for ner next shed signs to begin. Once she is showing signs, I would kick the humidity up drastically to maybe even 90 percent. Soudns high, but this is what I have always done, and it woks like a charm. I drop it after the shed.
My advice on raising the humidity would depend on the substrate and cage type that you use. I would keep daily nonshed humidity levels normal but kick it up at the first signs of blue-eyes.

Hate to disagree with everyone, but it looks like an injury to me. If you look at pic #2, there looks to be a gash running diagonally across the top of its head. The eyecap in question looks to have damage to it. It doesn't look like a retained eyecap to me. It looks to me to be healing ok though. I would watch it very closely for signs of infection. Examine the area on top of his head for exposed flesh. If you find any, you may want to treat with triple antibiotic cream (without pain reliever). If the eye itself was damaged, I would think it would look far worse than it does. A vet trip might be in order if any changes occur.

edit: I would not use a q-tip or anything else on that eyecap! If I'm right, and its an injury, anything you do could cause further damage! :end edit

My son just looked at the pics and is in agreement with me. You may want to check his enclosure for ANY sharp edges and remove the offending item. If he just shed, he may have been trying to slough his skin against the object.
