Just discovered mites

I came in from my long night and I was staring at my BP and noticed a little white dot running across the top of his head. I noticed he's been soaking lately but he'd only been doing it after meals. Whenever I picked him up the shop included a few things including a product called "jurassi mite"

Should I try treating his cage with this stuff? or is this stuff no good?

I know many people will just say "get some P-A-M and get it over with" but I have this stuff now and I just need to know if anyone has any experience with it, and if it will suffice. Thanks in advance!!!

Thankfully I haven't had to deal with mites yet, so I don't really know anything about it. But I would think that if that stuff that you have is made to kill mites, as long as it's for reptiles, it should be ok. If it is for reptiles, it won't hurt your snake, and even if it doesn't kill the mites, you can always just pick up some PAM after you try that stuff. I might wait until someone that has used it (or even heard of it before) can chime in, but if it meant for reptiles, I can't see why not try it. ^_^

yeah it's definitely a reptile product, I just dont see permethrin in the active ingredients and as I understand thats what gets the job done.

and unfortunately I'm pretty sure he came with the mites alot of his scales look a little dry, I don't know if his first shed was just crap and he wasn't cared for properly. I'm a little worried about him, although the 2 times i've fed him he takes the mice down like nobodies business.

Sounds much like a product called like Reptile Relief that will get rid of the adult mites but you may have a re-infestation in 30 days when the eggs hatch. Worth a try I guess but personally I'd still say to use the P.A.M. and just get it dealt with permanently.

If it's like Reptile Relief - it will kill the mites, but not the eggs. I used Reptile Relief on a rescue before I brought her into the home, a month later, she was soaking with more mites.


Bought a can of Provent-A-Mite and after one treatment, the mites were erradicated. Now I pretreat all my enclosures with PAM when I bring in new additions, and the Reptile Relief went in the trash (plus I hate how it smells).

Basically = Cooking Oils

You will get the same effect from a soak with a couple of drops of dish soap.

Get some P.A.M. or they will be back.

Also, you said they were white...what kind of substrate are you using?

The white stuff may be mite droppings, if it looks like your bp has dandruff. But for sure your gonna want to go ahead and splurge on the PAM.

It could also be a wood louse if they are using crypress or another wood substrate. Which are harmless to the snake.

Mites are definitely not white. They are black and the size of a period (.) . White bugs are most likely Aphids which are commonly seen in Cypress and other untreated wood substrates. They are annoying but harmless like Sean said.
