It seems as if any day now I might have a nice litter of Hogg's! I snuck a quick picture of her this morning.
I am pretty stoked as this is her first breeding.

Sad news!!!


I came home this morning and checked in on my girl. She was not on the hot side where she normally is, she was in the front on the cool side. Sometime during the night, she passed away!

I am really confused as I have no idea why this happened. I took this opportunity and did some exploratory disection. Everything was fine; good liver, good kidneys, and the babies looked healthy. None had ruptured or anything.
Anybody that breeds boas have any ideas?

I am going to miss this girl. She never struck at me, hissed at me only once (last week), and I had had her since she was a baby.

Ah, Mike, I'm sorry to hear that! I love Hoggs, too, and was hoping to see babies.

I know how sad it is to lose something you've taken such good care of for so long.

any chance you got a baby count while you were in there? a lot of times female boas will just have way more babies then they can handle. could be that on it's own. so many of them will also cause a rupture which can lead to problems too, but you said they were all intact. i think i read somewhere that jeremy stone has at least 1 female die a year from too many babies, so it's horrible to hear but i guess it just comes with the territory?

Sorry to hear that Mike, I was looking forward to see some baby hoggs. How did her ovaduct look? Could you see any viens? Any obvious kinking? Losing an animal like that is tough, especially when you don't know what the problem was.
