    Do they need light?

I am getting another BP and it is going to have to go in my closet. Do they need light? My other Bp is in my room where it just gets sunlight. Also for people who have big racks of snakes do those snakes get any light?

No, an added light isn't necessary. They just dry up any humidity in the tank and fluorescent lights are very stressful to BPs. The natural day/night cycle of your room should be fine.

Sorry you misunderstood me. The new BP is going to have to go in my closet (no light what so ever). Would that be alright?

    Re: Do they need light?

Well, since they are nocturnal creatures, they really don't NEED light. I try to supply some only because it makes ME feel better. But I don't think it would bother them a whole lot if they never saw light again.

    Re: Do they need light?

From what I read in the Barker's book, ball pythons benefit from a day/night cycle. I don't think they meant to say that you should put a spotlight in their enclosure, but they probably shouldn't be in complete darkness 24/7.

If you want to keep them in a closet with no windows, you can hook up a small light to a timer to stay on 12 hours a day, just to give them something.

You can leave the closet door open some during the day to allow the ambient light from the room to filter in. They don't need much...just a differentiation between day and night.

    Re: Do they need light?

Alright thanks. I think leaving the closet door open should be fine.
