The only ones I have found are Garter Snakes and Bull Snakes.
I live in south-west WA.

I haven't got the slighest clue, what these snakes are. But when I moved here to Georgia from Illinois 2004, these I found in my backyard...

southwest michigan... i've personally come across:
Eastern Garters (both normal and green)
Northern Ribbons
Norther Watersnakes
Blue Racers
Brown Snakes
Red Belly Snakes
Massasauga Rattlesnakes
*edit* and Eastern Hognoses.. i knew i was forgetting something.
and i think that's it! i have a ways to go i guess! one herp that is supposedly very common here that i've never ever seen is a five lined skink..?

The two main areas I go field herping at is either 8 minutes away and the other is 1 1/2 away. I usually alternate between the two spots and dont visit the one 8 minutes away any more than I do the one farther away.
At my closer spot I see some king snakes (rarely) but average 3 WDB's a night. More when the hatchlings are out.
My second location which is the further of the two I see mostly mojave rattlesnakes and some sidewinders. There is one other very secret place that I go to for sidewinders.

I'm also from southern Michigan, do you have any tips for a beginning "enthusiast"? All I've ever personally seen is several garters and a water snake.
