    My Harris Hawk Eggs

Well, the BP breeding this year has been going great, but my hawk breeding has not been as productive until yesterday. I finally got some eggs out of one of my pairs of breeding Harris Hawks. I have been waiting all season to get eggs and this came out of a pair I just put together. I was pretty excited.

I am hoping she will lay more. They will lay eggs every 3-4 days so I will keep you all updated on her progress. I just hope they are fertile...keeping my fingers crossed

    here are some pics.

    Picture of Momma

Picture of her guarding the eggs.

I figured not many on here get to see raptors breeding so I thought I would share it with you all... more pics to come if more eggs are laid.

    Hope you enjoy them
    Chris L.

Congrats on those eggs, and what a beautiful momma. I absolutely love raptors. I've gotten some experience with Red tails, Red Shoulders, Great Horned Owls, Barred Owls and even a Bald Eagle.

    Re: My Harris Hawk Eggs

Beautiful hawk! I love birds. I had a cockatiel for 7+ years before my mom got rid of him for no reason. Birds are so intelligent and in the case of my bird, very affectionate.

    Questions:

    What is falconry?

Do you have to have a special permit to have them?

    Christie,
Wow, you have been exposed to great brds of prey. Are you a rehabber? How did you get to do that? It is a great opprotunity to be able to handle and fly BOP's, I know you enjoyed it. The intense look in there eyes can be very intimidating.

The will hatch in 30 days. I hope anyways.. I sure hope they are fertile???

Raptor is just a generic term for birds tht hunt to eat. The species of raptor that bird is called a Harris Hawk.

Not a O/T question at all;. They actually get on the females back and deposite sperm on the out side of her cloaca and she pulls it inside of her. This happens befor each egg is laid, so the female will be bred fter every time an egg is laid.
