Re: we got a new pet!

I have no idea how I missed this thread back in the beginning! Congrats on your new addition, Aleesha!! She is quite possibly the CUTEST puppy I've seen. I'm all in favor of big dogs, too--so I'm glad you didn't get a teacup poodle

I'm so glad she's settling into family life nicely!! We'll need more pictures soon, of course!

    thanks kim

i started her back on steroids today... which i didn't want to do but her itching has gotten so much worse. she had her second shot on monday and as the week progressed (in hindsight) i can see how she began scratching more and more

oh well, she should be itch free by tomorrow. (((poor itchy puppy)))

What does she have?? Allergies? If so, Benadryl works great and you can use it everyday. I wouldn't be putting a puppy on steroids, I would be finding the cause of the itching.

What kind of food is she on? Food allergies are very common.

she's allergic to her vaccine. the vet gave her a different type of vaccine this time around to try and stop the reaction but unfortunately she had the reaction again.

i'm not sure what he'll do since she has one more vaccine time left. ???

Re: we got a new pet!

Give her Benadryl 30 minutes ahead of time, 1mg/lb(so if she's 25lbs she gets 25mg, etc etc), and then she can get her vaccines. The Benadryl is a much safer option than the steroids. She's much too young and those could possibly mess up her growth.

Re: we got a new pet!

and her ears... they are freakin' huge LOL she's soooo adorable. what a lovey girl she is. we should hear this week if she's getting a sister.

did i share this with you all? i was at the vet's office getting her last vaccination and he told me that he had another dog in the back as sweet as annabella. same size... with some australian shepard in her. so she looks exactly like my annabella only white and grey with the bluest eyes i've ever seen.

anyway, the owner brought her in with a shattered elbow. she was kicked by someone and he said he had too many legal fees and wanted her put down. poor baby...

well my vet told him to forget it, he'd fix her up and find her a home... at this point in the story i said, "i'll take her" as i wiped the tears from my eyes.

he said that he's thinking of keeping her himself but if he decides not to, i can have her. she needed her leg amputated as the corrective surgery didn't work... so her leg (front left) was taken off on thursday. we should hear this week if she's coming to live here or staying with him. either way she'll have a great home.

when we saw her (my daughter and i) we knew instantly her name is jasmine (i guess the name the guy had for her was inappropriate and the vet wouldn't tell me what it was with my daughter in the room)...

so we may be adding another little angel to our hear.

Re: we got a new pet!

That is horrible, that someone could do that to a poor puppy and affect its life forever. I am glad that you can take in the poor thing.
I have seen several three-legged dogs before, and all of them were rambunctious and acted as if they never knew something was missing.
