I am breaking down, getting Houdini in a tub
I can't deal with the tank thing anymore. I had it spot on perfect at my old house. Got him moved here it was great up until a couple weeks ago, then all of the sudden I can't keep humidity up. I have to mist 3 times a day. The heat is going nuts. So he is getting a tub today. The final straw was the fact that I spent so much time and money making the tank right cause he kept going on feeding strikes, I got him eating again for a long time and now he has stopped again. I can't have him not eating. So Off to get him a new house.
I do have a question though, with the tubs, roughly how many holes do you put into it for good circulation? How to you do it, drill I assume? Also I will have to keep the top on the tub because I don't have a rack for only one snake. So should I put small holes in the top too or just around the outside?
Oh and I have a ranco thermostat, and uths. Would that be okay to heat the tub temporarily until I get some heat tape?
Thanks

Uth's will be fine for heat. For the holes I used a wood burning pen, and went about 2-3" apart just on the sides. Seems to work fine. Good luck

Hi, i've just transfered mine to tubs for the same reasons and a few more.
I use UTH and thought it might be a good idea to have it sloped away from the heat mat side. So if they tip the water over or the over-flow from a bathing session doesn't wet the substrate above the heatmat.
Never a good idea for them to lie on hot wet substrate.
I used a soldering iron for the holes. I suppose a heated up screwdriver would do the job too. I've got 2 rows of 4 both long sides and 4 on each short side.
I didnt put holes in the lid i wanted to see how the heat/humdity levels were first.
After a weeks trial they are fine so i moved them in to their new homes.
I don't know what a ranco thermostat is, so i can't answer that one.

holds temps nicely, about to add more holes, humidity wont fall below 70% unless I take the lid off for a bit.

Re: I am breaking down, getting Houdini in a tub
So I got the tub all set up and ready tonight. I couldn't believe how easy it was to get the temps and humidity spot on. Only took about 2 hours. Houdini is now in his new home and he seems pretty content.
One question though, is it okay to only have one hide in the tub? Two didn't seem to fit. But its really dark and quiet wear the tub is up on a top shelf. So I think it may be okay I just wanted to check.
Now hopefully he will eat a week from today. And hopefully he doesn't escape. He was the escape artist of the decade as a little juvie.

I found some metal chip clips? to add as extra security... cheap and user friendly!
Grey Scale is a good thing...
