Mine does that sometimes, I have two identical hides on both sides but he likes to wedge himself between the vivarium glass and the hide. 3 sides of the tank are covered with black foam boards so it should feel more "secure". My guess is he just likes the more snug fit. But he eventually moves back into the hides.
I'm sure your snake is similar, and needs to get used to the new bark.

The fact he isn't going back into his hides it not an issue in itself at this point. I have some that never use their hides. If he still eats come feeding day all is good...if not then we can try and figure out is something is wrong.

Yea, a couple of mine have been wedging themselves between the walls and the hide, and they always knock over my thermometer lol. Another likes to find itsway under the paper towel that i use. Its just to bad they cant talk to you, only info you get is confortable with you, a nip, or a bite....lol.
