I'm new with snakes in general...

and I was wondering, how aggressive are ball pythons?

my cousin in law is about to move and cant take all 3 of his bp's with him so he is giving them out to me and my cousins to keep them in the family. Him and his wife (my cousin) both say it's a VERY well behaved snake and its very healthy and everything, but I just want to know about their tempers in general and if it will be aggresive towards me since i'm not the original owner. Sorry if something like this was already asked, I just want to provide the best care for the snake as possible,

Hi and welcome! Ball pythons tend to be very placid and laid back snakes, as a rule. However, they are all individuals, and as such, each can behave differently.

Can you meet and interact with the snake before taking it on?

Please also be sure to read up on our caresheet so that you can have your enclosure set - up and running with temps stabilized before bringing him home!

Oh of coarse hah I'm a complete animal lover I would never take one in without knowing of how to take care of one. and yeah for the next couple of weeks before the move i'll be going over they're aparment a lot to see the snake, I need some pictures of it soon its a beatiful animal. and as a 18th birthday present they (my cousins) are getting me a really nice tank and helping me set it up and for the first couple of weeks I have it they'll be over here a lot teaching me how to care for it, it's like their baby, im glad they trust me with it ha.

Excellent! Sounds like you've got a plan for the transition. You should do fine! Be sure to continue to ask questions as they come up!

oh and also as far as lighting goes, I understand that they like dark? is there a certain amount of light that should be there? because my room is usually pretty dark because the desk lamp in my room has 3 settings and it's usually on a dim setting.

You don't really need formal lighting, a window in the room will provide enough of a light/dark cycle.
