Re: Python regius-Food for....?
From what I read in VPI's book most of the major predators from the snakes point of view are no longer in the area. Such as lions, leopards, servals, and several species of genets, . Some others were mongooses, hyena's, jackals...
If you want the full exerpt I'll PM it to you after I finish my homework.

Thanks....perhaps this is a reason behind why P.regius has now reached invasive status in many parts of its natural range.

Pretty much, I think they're really only either A) used for food by native people, or B) exported for the breeders

Re: Python regius-Food for....?
I typed this out for Mendel and thought everyone else might like a look at it. For those of you that don't have the book I recommend it. The following exerpt, on the predation of ball pythons, is taken from "Ball Pythons: The History, Natural History, Care, and Breeding" by David G. Barker and Tracy M. Barker (VPI)
"This once was a predator-rich environment, particularly from the point of view of a ball python, but many of the dominant predators are today rare or gone from many areas of their historic ranges in West Africa and Central Afica. Included in the list of potential predators for ball pythons are lions (Pantera leo), leopards (Pantera pardus), servals (Felis serval), several species of genets (Genetta jognstoni, G. thierryi, G. pardina, G. tigrina), two mongoose species in the genus Herpestes (H. ichneumon and H. sanguineus), the Arican tropical savanna mongoose (Dologale dybowskii) the African civet (Civettitus civetta) and the striped hyena (Hyaena hyaena). African hunting dogs (lycaon pictus), side-striped jackal (Canis adustus), and black-backed jackal (Canis mesomelas) are canid predators with ranges that overlap that of the ball python. There are two wild hog species, the Arican bush pic (Potamochersus porcus) and the giant forest hog (Hylochoersus minertzhageni), as well as introduced feral pigs (Sus scrofa), all of which are known to eat snakes. Except in a few protected areas, all these mammals are uncommon in West ad Central Africa today."
