New photo setup?

I was playing with a new photo setup today. Let me know what you think, im still messing around trying to get everything perfect so dont bash me too hard.

With flash


No Flash


The pastel is going into shed so you cant see his true colors.

Looks like you need more lighting in the foreground and less above/in the background.

Lighting is key! also try playing around with the f stop if your camera is let you
This was taken with a fine pix f10 flash on slow, macro on, and a GE 5200k true white light and reflector.

Ok I played around with the manual setting a bit and these are what I got.

Im trying to not use a buch on artificial lighting, the only for these was the flash and sunlight. I think I need to tweak around with the setup and see if I can capture more of the sunlight.

if you can light from both sides. sunlight for the back and flash for the front.

Like this sun light from the left and the flash from the top front.

Try not to use the flash, it will "bleach" out your picture, giving it pale colours. It's better to use artificial light from all sides or from one side to create depth and shadows. But try working without flash. It will deliver great pictures after some practice.

also try using just fill flash, some cams allow you to adjust the flash output. some cams allow to adjust the exposure

(ev) those pics are a little overexposed, try going down
-1/2 to-1 ev or stop. if your cam lets you adjust your exposure metering like spot,center, full frame. try those different methods too! it takes alot of experimenting and recording settings to get them straight. once you get your setup and settings down, it's a piece of cake. one of the most important things is the amount and temperature of the light. use alot of light, more than you think you need and try to use bulbs balanced for daylight at 5000-5500K

Thanks for advice guys.

Im still playing around with it and I think with just one more light over head I will be set. I picked up a pack of "natural light" light bulbs and have been playing around with them today. I had one on each side of the subject and one for the room light, I still need to get one directly over head. They are starting to turn out a little better then the first time around.

No flash, just 2 "natural light" light bulbs




I think I need to adjust the light direction a little more to get rid of all the shadows.

Wow the natural light definately makes a huge difference to the colours. lookin good - I think I shall try and track down some of those bulbs myself.

I had to use a 3 way combo to light Angel. Sun, Red eye flash, (tripple flash) and a mirror.(sp?)



That was really the only way I could get her true colors to really shine but it still didnt come out right. ....

the first photo I used the standard flash and didnt place the mirror. the sun came in way to strong and the flash gave her an ugly glow.
