    4-legged snow angels. :) (duw)

I got Emma and Cuesta movin' outside today; they had been in the past 4 days because of really bad weather, bu today was gorgeous! Here are some shots!

Cuesta was really not that exuberant.. she pulled a muscle a few weeks ago in a fall, but she is definately not as sore now..

Emma however, was rippin' holes in that snow!

    Thanks!
I have to say that they are a Lot of work.. I spend roughly an hour a day or more on their basic care. The biggest thing is stall cleaning; I shovel the manure into a cart and haul it out with the ATV, 2x a day.. but I would never have it any other way.
Now, I can not wait for nicer weather when summer hits! Pasture-living horses = little stall cleaning!

Do they have a lot of boarding places around there? I talked to someone here yesterday and boarding is $65 a month and pasture access is another $45 a month.

    Yes, I miss that!!

That is the only kid of poop that smells good.... . Nothing better than seeing a babie horse run, and funnier too.

tmlowe: there are a few different kinds of boarding places round here. My friend does basic pasture boarding with no frills; stand stalled during inclement weather and outside all the time (but with free-choice hay and 2x a day grain.) She charges a reasonable $200 ($150 if you help out cleaning barn regularly)when you factor in the costs of hay, bedding, grain, and added cleanup.
I know of riding stables whose board is in the $300 range (arenas, box stalls, etc.) But not sure, I never boarded before aside from them being at my friend's when we newly purchased them from her awhile ago.)

Wow Evan, to say that they loved it is an understatement! Emma in particular hates being stalled up for any length of time longer than overnight; Cuesta really doesn't mind either way, and we wanted to rest her b/c of her injury for a few days anyway so I am glad that happened now if it had to.. stalling on a 60-degree day irritates me. . But we are going to have to fix something; Emma has taken to chewing the wood on her stall partition when stalled too long.. we need to get metal framing to remedy that. At least she isn't eating it; I found a pile of chewings that fit into the chewed part's size perfectly
I agree Stangs! When we had the babies here last season, every day was a new adventure; watching them start walking; galumphing around outside; starting to graze like mom; finally, seeing them all happy in their new home! I have pics of that; I will post.
