    Rat-pet-breeder male:)

Well, turns out, the little "girl" rat I wanted to keep as a pet, is a male. I am elated; I needed a new breeder male for my feeder colony, and he is it. He was recently weaned, and so I have started handling him as more of a pet than just a breeder.. so here he is..

He loved the drink-holder on our cooler!

I don;t care if you love rats or hate them; you can't say that this is not cute! :

    Thanks!
I did think he was a girl Aleesh; but nope!
Would you think he is a dumbo? Also, for any rattie color experts, what color is he? Beige?

Yeah, his late daddy was a blue dumbo.. he almost has this weird lavender tinge to his coat.. at any rate, he's a keeper! I expressly told Mark NOT to feed this guy off..

    Re: Rat-pet-breeder male:)

He's a cutie and definitely looks to be a dumbo eared rat. As far as color it's so hard to say from the pics hon but with that coat color and the red eyes...maybe a champagne? I get a ton of champagnes born in our colony. Have a look through the pics at this link, maybe that will help.

    http://www.afrma.org/ratselfs.htm

Are his eyes a true red or more of a ruby red? I was wondering about blue-beige but they have dark ruby eyes and his appear to be red. Nice thing is he will be recessive for blue so you can get that color back in your colony if you like it.

    Re: Rat-pet-breeder male:)

He looks more like a Siamese . I can see dark points on his ears unless its just the pic. If he was born with points he is Siam and if he is just now getting them he is a Himi.
Or neither if its just shadow from the flash. I looked at the pics agian, that is 100% a Siamese. He will lose the beigy look as he gets older and keep the dark points.
    Very cute
