    eyes of the snake

so if snakes use their heat pits to "look around",then what are the eyes generally used for? im guessing their probably used for detecting movement? they dont see in color i know that, but then what do they see with their eyes? has enough information been discovered regarding snake eyesight?

I think it's more of all the senses working together, i.e. scent, heat sig, sight, touch (vibrations) etc. I don't think the heat pits necessarily replace sight...

yes i know but lets say you were to put one of your snakes in front of your pc monitor, what would the snake see with its own eyes?

To the left it would see a unit phone list, and to the right it would see a circuit diagram, which is classified. Therefore, the snake would have to be killed. Unless of course he had the proper clearance...and a "need to know"...

Not all snakes have heat pits and the snakes that do have them do not use them as a replacement for eyesight. The heat pits are a tool designed through evolution to locate and target potential prey with a better strike rate than eyesight and scent location. A lot of snakes have very good eyesight but the majority can't really focus in on anything at a distance of forty five centimetres or more. Althought a snakes eyes are very atoned to movement at far greater distance
