Rescues
soo...i am taking in two rescue BPs tomarrow. I am going to adopt them back out, but the woman is moving on Monday, and needs to get rid of them now. She has no idea of the sexes, but they are 2.5-3 and 4-4.5 years old.
They are housed together, she said she tries to sepearate them for feedings (whatever tries means), with no heat, and no hides.
I knew they were in trouble as soon as i saw the ad, "Best Offer, 1 large and 1 small bald python. MUST SELL" and yes, that is not a typo, it said bald python.
i'm guessing that 1 is a male and 1 is a female, but we'll see.
and yes, they are going to be separated and extreeemly quarintined.
i'll post some pix tomarrow

did you get the snakes yet Amy?
"Why do you need so many snakes?"

Re: Rescues
Doing rescues is an arduous process most of the time.
Even if you get them for free, you take them to the vet, pay the vet bill, take care of any illnesses you encounter, and feed them. Then, to get someone to adopt the animal with an adoption fee which usually does not compensate for the money you have put in is difficult as well.
I have done this on several occasions, but not to actually adopt out. I usually keep them.
It is worth it to get them healthy, but to adopt out, most of the time you will be taking a loss.. Just a thought. As long as you can afford it, do it.

Yeah, I'll make sure that they have the best care possible.
No, they havn't arrived yet, she is coming at around 7 tonight. She is giving me two 55 gallons too. She had the snakes in one, and had the other as an extra. I think i'm going to set up a big snake display case, and i'll sell the other one. Or i'll use one of them for fishy stuff, and use my 20L for a snake set up. not sure yet.
I'll keep everybody posted though.
oh, and i was talking to her this morning, and they are very underfed. they are 3-4 years old, and one gets 1 rat a month, and the other one gets 2-3 small mice a month. poor little guys.

I must have missed it - did you ever answer if you have a vet appointment scheduled for them this week? I would at the very LEAST get them in for a full wellness evaluation this week.
