Scratching glass
Hi!
My BD, Pete is about a year and a half old. He likes to scratch against his tank glass... and its kind of annoying. Any ideas why? I used to think it was him fighting with his reflection, but when i put some paper in front of him he keeps going - he just pushes himself up onto his hindlegs so he can see OVER the paper. My guess is he's trying to get to something - but what?
Thanks!

Re: Scratching glass
He's probably just bored and wanting to cruise around. Just make sure his temps are correct and maybe take him out and let him use up that curiosity. I have some outside screen cages and sometimes I'll put a really active and scratching the walls guy in the outside cage and they will just hang out on their perch and just relax and soak up the veiw, sounds and fresh air acting completely mellow. After witnessing this alot I figured they were just bored and wanted a change of pace sometimes. Also all that scratching is probably the best excersize he getting so thats a good thing. Just make sure he's not to hot and wound up from heat.

incorrect husbandry, searching for food, or boredom.

Hard to say my new BD is to young to let out to just "hang out" he is still in his jumpy phase. My older male that passed on this past spring would scratch at the glass to get taken out when ever someone was in the room.
what size enclosure is he in? Like Marshall said incorrect husbandry could also be the cause.

Re: Scratching glass
I know he does it a lot when he can SEE food (aka, the box of crickets or tub of superworms) but sometimes he does it in the corner that faces a wall...
He's in a 30Gal, about 100F on the hot side and room temperature on the cool side.
He also likes scratching me a LOT. He'll sit on me for a while then just scratch madly, then stop. And when I try to put him down (or back in his enclosure) he'll cling to my sleeve and try to stay there.
He's a weirdo. -_-

Re: Scratching glass
it could be as simple as he is seeing his reflection and it bothers him.
