Why so many flies??? (Dial Up warning)

I walked outside the other day to finally weed my poor pineapple plant only to get the shock of my life...the weed that was over growing the poor thing was covered in flies....does anyone know why this would be?

Re: Why so many flies??? (Dial Up warning)

That plant most likely puts out a smell that attracts flying insects to it for pollination purposes. There are some yellow flowered weeds near me that attract lovebugs like mad. But then I don't have a lot of flies around, so flies might also be attracted and I just haven't noticed.
