help. new owner

I am new to this ball python thing and loving every minute. My baby is Nacho.
He is about 10 months old. My problem is no matter what I try I cannot keep the humidity high enough in his tank. I have no problem keeping the temp right but humidity goes upo to 70% after i mist the tank but falls to about 30% after a few hours and stays there. Nacho has taken up residence in his water the last 2 days. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

WHat kind of setup do you have? (Tub, aquariuum etc)

What are your temperatures (warm/col side) and how are you measuring them?

Are you using a screen lid?

He is in an aquarium with a mess lid that i have covered mostly with Aluminum foil and duct tape. The warm side stays between 90 and 92 while the cool side stays between 80 and 84. I measure the temp with 2 small therms i bought at a local pet store.

i have checked him recently and did not see any. Can they hide to the point where they are not visible visually but a problem for the ball. Also, how do you post pictures?

Are you using lights to heat or an UTH ?? Lights suck humidity out bad!

I have a couple small suggestions. I keep mine in tanks and fight the same problem. 1 make sure the water is near the heat source. 2 something I tried that made a world of difference I took a small plastic container and made holes around the middle with about an inch in between. I soaked some repti bark then put it in the conainer put water to just under the holes and put it by my heat source (next to the water behind the hide). I havent had to mist once I just refresh that water everyday when I clean the water dish.

As well as other stickies you may find very informative.

And yes...snakes can carry mites that you won't see for awhile...usually eggs that will hatch sometime in the next week or two...IF she has any.

If you chose advanced search and do a topic search for humidity there are scads of threads which might help also.

Is it a larger or taller aquarium? Are lights the only heat source?

Are the thermomenters analog, digital or stick-on?
