    NEW Sexing Method

I found this on another forum and thought I'd let other people know about and was wondering if anyone else had tried this with a ball that you already knew the sex of and if it worked or not.

Orignally posted from SnakeLover24 on repticzone's forum.
this man from a reptile rescue zoo like place came to my petco today and he told me how to sex my snakes. this may work for cornsnakes it may not. but it definetly works for ball pythons. take your thumb and another finger and slide it down the the snake a few inches before cloaca and past it. if you feel to small bumps on the side of your snake its a male and if you feel need its a female. I would wait to do this if your snake is going to poop any time soon because you may force out poop or you may get a misreading. try it and see what happens . for those who know the sex of your snakes try it and see if it works for any of us who havent tried yet.

The only way to guarantee the sex of your ball python is by either popping or probing ... other methods are way too prone to "false positives", especially in the hands of inexperienced keepers.

I wouldn't waste my time. Take the time to learn how to probe or pop, it's how the real pros get r dun. All that other garbage is just ridiculous.

    Re: NEW Sexing Method

I have tried it quite a few times on boas, and find that it works pretty good on them, as they have large hemipenes. I have never tried it on my Ball Pythons, however,I just pop them.

    Re: NEW Sexing Method

i had my snake probed right then and there where i bought it. probing to me seems like the most effective way to determine the snakes sex.

isn't probing risky though? do you need a vet or somethin or do people do it themselves.

Yes probing can hurt the snake if you push the probe to far.I only reccomend having this done by someone who REALLY knows what they are doing .

I agree with Adam here.A freind told me you can hold some baby corn snakes up to a light and see the hemipenis. I must be blind or something because even with the snows(who are transperent lol) i do not see a thing,so i just pop them .
