Females should have adequate body weight for their size ... a 4ft 1500 gram 10 year old female is in no condition to be bred ... they should also probably be in their 3rd winter.

Ovulation occurs after courtship and copulation ... typically triggered by the "warm up" after temperature cycling is discontinued. Females won't breed at all while they are "ovulating".

I would if I felt she was at the proper weight and could handle the rigors of breeding. I don't know about anyone else.

most guys i've talked to said that young girls sometimes lay good eggs but that is not the norm. 2nd or 3rd winter seems to be the average for breeder girls to be ready.

Depends on the project, but probably not ... I run at about a 90% success rate (9 out of every 10 girls I put with a male lay eggs) when then girls are in their 3rd winter or older ... For girls in their second winter, my success rate drops to about 30% and then 50% of those girls throw slugs ... It's a much smarter move to wait another year and get that much more size on the girl and "lock in" a bigger clutch in her 3rd winter.

There are no shortcuts.
