Which breeding project to do and why

Decided I am going to do some breeding project. Set on a few of them but I am open. Vote please and HELP me make up my mind

    1. 1.0 het albino and 0.3 normal female adults. Breed back all the pos het female to a het male and hope to make some albinos
    2. a 1.1 pair of het albino and raise them to breed
    3. 1.0 normal het pied and breed him to 0.3 normal females and do the same as option 1.
4 Other idea that won't make me go broke

    Sorry, the poll didn't work

Question Re: Which breeding project to do and why

I thought you were going with a pair of 100% het albinos? Why waste your time if your possible hets do not prove out?

You need to decide which morph you want to go as well as decide on a budget.

If you decide on albino and have the budget and impatience, then go for the 1.1 het albinos...if you decided on albino but have a small budget, then a 1.0 het albino and normal girlies will be a great way to break into breeding with a small amount. If you want pieds, again, figure out your budget and go from them.

But really, you first need to decide which morph makes you the most excited and then figure out how you can get that with the budget you have. =)

1.0 cat (Nicky), some mooses and ratters, 1.0 hubby (Rick)

Which do you like better? Albinos or pieds?

    1. Takes a long time, cheap. 3 years to raise the normal girls (plus $ for food, caging, etc) then another 3 to raise the possible hets. If you saved $10 a week for the same period of time, 6 years, you'd have $3,120....you could buy a few albinos with that!

    2. 1.1 pair is more expensive but will give you a good shot at albinos. Still a roll of the dice.

Same goes for the pied scenario. Just some food for thought.

That's where I am. I have no patience and in the same amount of time it would take to raise up, breed and hope I got a homogenous animal from het or het to poss het pairing, I could just buy the snake I wanted, know exactly what it looks it and know it was bred by someone far better than me!

    But I'm impatient...=)

I think the only "hole" in what I said above could be this- what about the joy and experience of breeding and hatching out your own morph? That's something else that needs to be weighed in to your own equation of what is worth it to you and what's not.

I'll see what they have at the show oct 1st. If they have het albinos, I'll get a pair from someone I can trust. If they have a good price on some normal females. I may have to do that. I'm sure you'll see another couple animals in my sig pretty soon...Keep throwing out you oppinions on it though please

I'd be incredibly weary on purchasing hets from shows. It just seems too easy for someone to get away with something...

Give Adam at 8Ball a call...he does payment plans and is so easy to deal with. I've seen his record keeping system myself and trust it completely!

Research your seller before buying. There are a lot of good sellers out there that also do shows. Nothing like picking up something nice from a show to take home... makes the whole day a great one!

Good luck, I hope you find something nice at the show.
