my favorite fish
This is my biggest (and fave) african cichlid right now....Fossochromis rostratus.
This one is a male, 13" and growing. Breeding like mad and full of fight.
Pic from today:
this is a fish that most people never have a chance to see in full coloration - and truly the pic doesn't do it justice. iridescent as all hell with colors that change with the angle of light. I compare them to opals a lot, with firey colors under cool blues.

Awesome! I am always looking for something rare in the fish world, something I haven't seen.. that definately fits the bill.
Can you help me id this guy? I swear I remember his latin name, began with a K, that is all i can remember. I mean the one on the right, not the Livingstoni.

Re: my favorite fish
Thanks! I bought him when he was tiny, labeled as a "jack dempesy" but knowing he had to be smoething different; def Not a dempsey! He is not aggressive or anything. I can do more research about him now that I know what he is; thanks!

Re: my favorite fish
well I can tell by looking at the picture that you have taken GREAT care of him so far, so just keep doing what you're doing
he's got great size and color!
that nimbochromis looks good too - you're a great fishkeeper!

Re: my favorite fish
Thanks! I love my guys; some people keep fish for a month, they die off, and they give up.. not me.
I love my little Nimbo (though he's not so little anymore.) I had one years ago but didn't really know what I was doing; now that I had a god tank set up, I wanted to get this guy. He has tripled in size since I got him, so has the redfin.
My secret? I don't fuss and obsess ovwer my tank cleanliness. Some people get all upset when their new tank cycles; I just let it go, and in awhile the water is nice and clear and the bacterial colonies are mature enough to handle more fish; I am sure you understand because your fish look awesome too! Nice and healthy, no missing parts = good.

Re: my favorite fish
How cool is that? My full name is Jennifer, but people call me Jen; Jenny if they have a death wish. Unless it's my honey; he calls me Jenny and it's cute.
What other fishies do you keep? I have 2 tanks of goldfish; not sure if you saw them in my recent thread.

Re: my favorite fish
My favorite saltwater fish would be the lionfish(Black volitan) and the Blue tang. I've never had freshwater but I think neon's and Oscar's are cool.
