Red face Feed advice needed please..

Got my new baby Royal (4 months old) (named Deebo) on saturday

looking at his feed sheet he has only ever eaten pinkies.

Was'nt going to feed him untill tomorrow but He is so active I think he is hungry.

I spoke to a lady who I know from a UK forum, who was at the show where I brought him from, she said he could easily handle bigger food items.

So, I just went to the pet shop & they showed me a pinky & a fuzzy.

Looking at the bulk of Deebo's body, the pinkies were way too small. But then I think the Fuzzies are too. so I brought 2 fuzzies, which are about 1 1/2 inches in length & about 1/2 an inch wide.

My question is, shall I just try him on 1 for now OR give him them both ? & if I do feed 2, how long shall I leave it before offering him the 2nd ?

here is a pic of Deebo to give you a rough idea of size..

    thanks in advance..

It would be best to leave him for one full week prior to offering him his first feed Lisa. The fuzzies are frozen are they? Since he's been on pinkies I would just offer the one fuzzy this week and see how he goes then perhaps you can work him up to two per week if he seems to need it. You don't want to make big jumps in prey volume too fast so going up in size and also total volume being so much more might be a problem for him. Best in my mind to do these things in stages. If you do decide to feed two prey items simply wait for the first one to be fully swallowed and the snake looking ready to strike again, then offer the next one (make sure the second one is as warm as the first, since when it sits around waiting for the first one to be eaten it can cool down significantly).

ah ok then, thanks for your help. Yeah, they are frozen. I was going to leave him for the weeks 'settling in' period before his 1st feed with me, but as he seemed to be activley seeking food I thought it would be ok. I will leave him untill the weekend then.

    cheers buddy

Also, by the time I get home these fuzzies will be defrost. Is it advisable to throw them away or am I able to re-freeze them for the weekend ?

Its no problem going out & buying more tho, what do you think?

Treat them like you would your own pork chop for dinner. If they've only just defrosted and not been sitting out baking in the sun and going stinky they are likely just fine to refreeze. When we fed f/t I just marked anything I had to refreeze. Sometimes with pinkies (not as often with fuzzies) they will be more mushy if they've been refrozen and more like to pop.
