Re: I found something cool at petco!

I found a cute little reduced pattern at PetCo...does that count?

Pastels I could see as being true...local breeders strike deals with the store to sell their animals through them.

Actually, as a matter of national corporate policy, PetCo stores are only allowed to sell reptiles received from their distributer. Local animals are a big no no.

That said, knowing what the gentleman that has the contract to supply PetCo with various reptiles (including ball pythons) has in his racks, I can promise you that it won't be long before you see "legit" pastels for sale in PetCos around the US.

Nice! I'll be on the lookout.

People down here seem to not really care what's illegal or against rules.

Re: I found something cool at petco!

Petco here has some odd balls, Im going down today to see if they still have them. One was a nice looking female she was 75$, had some nice stripping down the back but her sides were really odd. it almost looked like tiger stripes. Not as thin as the spider but still cool looking none the less, clear belly with the white coming up the sides a bit like on my male Baby. They also had one at a mom and pop place for 150$ that was bright orange but it was just a baby baby. I think that color would grow out right?
At the place I worked at in Sierra Vista Az they got in a neonate with a solid black back. I was going to buy him for the 84$ they priced me but my big mout runith over in the break room and the owner found out it was a "different ball from the rest" and uped the price to 600$ It ended up dieing because #1 it didnt sell and #2 they had it in a 10 gal tank with 15 other babies. They wouldnt let me move it or feed it. I got fired for feeding the babies. oh well.

The Petco in West Seneca (just outside of Buffalo) had an albino about a month back; but they knew what they were selling and it was around $2,750.

WOW ... You have some VERY interesting stories! Keep them coming! A $600 black back? What was that owner thinking? Fired for feeding babies? Wow, that must be one horrible pet store for sure!

It was either not an albino ball or some type of local deal ... definitely not something sanctioned by PetCo corporate offices whom all stores are accountable to.

NOT that I condone stealing.. but I would have gotten fired for a whole 'nother reason there! I wouldn't see it as stealing if I were saving a life; couldn't have just watched them die.

Re: I found something cool at petco!

I didnt know it died untill I came back from Orange County, I asked if it was sold and one of the other girls told me it died. I asked my pin head of a boss if it was true and he confermed it. I asked about feeding the babies that were left over and he told me no. "they will get there first meal when they are sold and out of my store." I remember it like it happened today. Most of the babies left over were looking really thin. so I took a bunch of frozen pinks and heate them up with a heating lamp and fed all of them. I even paied for the pinks. My boss found out the next day he worked and fired me with out question. His reason was that the snakes shouldnt eat due to stress and they will regurge on the customers. the place was called Pets West "the people and pet place"

I have stories up the pooter about that place and there treatment of me my fellow working women (women... that is a whole other story there about that place) and there animals. I could post a thread on OT about it but I doubt it would be read.
